cottet's artistic style is characterized by dark, evocative paintings of rural brittany and seascapes. he led a school of painters known as the bande noire or "nubians" group, which was influenced by the realism and dark colors of courbet. his work is also associated with the picturesque seaside symbolism of the pont-aven school.notable works and exhibitions
