Artistic Style and Notable Works
Van den Hoecke was recognized for his meticulous draftsmanship, fine brushwork, and bright tonalities. He was considered a gifted staffage and still life painter, a skill evident in his collaborations with Peter Snayers . His landscapes often featured a low horizon and a multitude of small figures. His portrait, painted by Gonzales Coques as an allegory of sight, depicts him in his official capacity as controller of fortifications, holding a painter's palette and a finished picture of a military camp.
