Nandalal Bose was one of the illustrators of the Indian Constitution. Nandalal experimented extensively with mural painting, often working in collaboration with his students. As a student, a visit to Ajanta Caves in 1909 profoundly impacted Nandalal Bose. In his later works, he would often draw upon the paintings he had seen at the historic caves.
