Armand Guillaumin

Early Life and Artistic Training Born Jean-Baptiste Armand Guillaumin on February 16, 1841, in Paris, the man who would become known as Ferdinand Guillaumin spent his early years balancing labor with a quiet interest in drawing. Before he could commit himself to the canvas, he worked in his uncle's lingerie shop. During the evenings, he attended drawing lessons to sharpen his hand. This period of work was interrupted by a stint working for a French government railway, a job that preceded his formal entry into the art world.
