Valentin de Boulogne: The Shadow Painter of Rome Valentin de Boulogne (before 3 January 1591 – 19 August 1632), sometimes referred to as Le Valentin, was a French painter who achieved international renown during the Baroque period. Born in Coulommiers, France, he possessed an artistic lineage steeped in tradition—his father and uncle were both painters—providing him with an early grounding in visual arts.
