A boy kneels behind a drum and points his gun at the father, behind this a boy blows his bugle and hits the chandelier with his lance. Behind the mother is a girl riding a rocking horse. To the right, a maid with a bow and arrow.

David Bles (1821-1899) was a Dutch 19th-century painter known for his charming genre scenes set in the 18th century. His witty and detailed depictions of everyday life, often with satirical undertones, gained him widespread recognition across Europe.
