Narodil se kolem roku 1600 v Chamagně, malé vesnici v Duchovství Lorraine (dnešní Francie), Claude Lorrain – původem Claude Gellée – zůstává jedním z nejslavnějších tvůrců krajinářské malby barokní éry.
