Atlanta-based Masud Ashley Olufani is a multifaceted artist whose creative endeavors span sculpture, performance art, filmmaking, and writing—all united by a profound exploration of trauma and identity. Born in Los Angeles in 1980, Olufani’s artistic journey began with formal training at Morehouse College and Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where he earned an MFA in Sculpture in 2013. This foundational education instilled in him a meticulous approach to craft and a dedication to conveying complex narratives visually. Olufani's work consistently confronts difficult subjects—particularly the legacy of transatlantic slavery and its enduring impact on communities worldwide. His sculptural pieces often utilize textured surfaces and evocative forms to represent resilience, vulnerability, and remembrance. Notably, he spearheaded “Blocked,” a multimedia performance project commemorating spaces scarred by trauma related to the slave trade, demonstrating his commitment to artistic activism alongside creative expression.
