Ilya Yefímovich Repin, un renombrado pintor realista ruso, nació el 24 de julio de 1844 en Chuguev, Ucrania, entonces parte del Imperio Ruso. Su padre, Yefim Vasilyevich Repin, era un soldado y también un colono dedicado al cultivo de la tierra.
