Initially known as Tsai Rong-Kuan (蔡榮寬), he transitioned to the artistic moniker “Shiue-hu” and “Shiue-ya,” reflecting his dedication to mastering traditional Chinese painting techniques.

Graduating from elementary school in 1901 during this period, he pursued formal education alongside a fascination for Western art forms.
