His pieces create tensions between object and absence, making empty space an integral element of his work. He plays with both formalist elements and the physicality of his materials. Tawatchai uses furniture and objects to explore the relationship between two- and three-dimensional space and to question how our perception of an object is governed more by what our eye sees than what our brain knows to be true. The artist will employ complex mathematical calculations to generate forms, but then he often designs and constructs them without the aid of modern technologies. His practice regularly makes references to cartography, astronomy, and cosmology as well as Buddhist philosophy.

His artistic journey began with formal training at Chiang Mai University’s Faculty of Fine Arts in 1993 where he earned a bachelor's degree in sculpture, establishing a foundational understanding of sculptural techniques and conceptual exploration. Further enriching his skillset was a master’s degree from Silpakorn University’s Faculty of Painting, Sculpture, and Graphic Arts in 2001, solidifying his expertise in artistic expression and furthering his creative vision.

Early Influences: Puntusawasdi's formative years were marked by exposure to traditional Thai art forms alongside Western influences, fostering a synthesis of aesthetic sensibilities that would permeate his subsequent work.
The Tilted Series: Arguably his most celebrated contribution to the artistic landscape is the “Tilted Series,” initiated in 2002.
