Educated at St. Clement Danes School, he secured a scholarship to the Slade School of Fine Art in 1956, where he forged enduring friendships with fellow artists Anthony Green and Peter Freeth under William Coldstream’s tutelage—relationships that would continue throughout his life. This formative period instilled in him an appreciation for observation and meticulous technique, shaping the core of his artistic sensibility.- Early Influences: Levene's initial explorations encompassed Surrealism and Expressionism, reflecting the broader artistic currents of the time.
