Following formative studies at the Trustees' Academy in Edinburgh, Burr honed his skills and established himself as an artist based in the city until 1861. Recognizing the potential for collaboration and artistic growth, he partnered with his younger brother Alexander Hohenlohe Burr (born 1835), forming a formidable duo that solidified their presence in London’s burgeoning art scene.
