Walter Elmer Schofield was a master of the American Impressionist movement, a painter whose soul seemed inextricably linked to the raw, unyielding vitality of the natural world. Born in Philadelphia, he possessed a rugged, outdoorsman's temperament that defined his approach to the canvas. His life was a rhythmic movement between the American Northeast and the coast of England, specifically St Ives in Cornwall, where he lived much of his life with his wife, Muriel.
