The Life and Career of Martin Desjardins
Born in Breda, Netherlands, Martin Desjardins, also known as Martin van den Bogaert, was a sculptor and stuccoist who spent his mature career in Paris. In 1661, he was accepted into the Académie de Saint-Luc under the name "Martin Desjardins," a translation of his Dutch name. By 1671, he was received as a member of the Académie royale de peinture et de sculpture, following the creation of his marble relief, Hercules Crowned by Glory.
