Denis Frederic Neal Peploe was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, on November 18, 1914, the younger son of Margaret and Samuel John Peploe. His father, a respected artist himself, instilled in Denis a lifelong passion for visual arts—a fascination that would profoundly shape his artistic trajectory. Growing up amidst a thriving artistic community fostered an early appreciation for observation and meticulous craftsmanship. However, Peploe persevered with unwavering determination, returning to his craft in 1946 reinvigorated by renewed inspiration.
