He was 73 years old when he died on February 7, 1996. A mass was held for him on the morning of February 10 at Holy Ghost Catholic Church on Louisiana Avenue, which was followed by a jazz funeral. Majestic Mortuary was in charge of arrangements, with interment at Lafayette Cemetery No. 2.
