Horse Stealing
Southern Plains Indian Museum (A.2022.01.03)This diorama depicts a Kiowa man taking horses from a Ute camp. It was commissioned by the U.S. Department of the Interior, Indian Arts and Crafts Board in 1949. Figures are modeled out of beeswax and handpainted. Diorama landscaping is real sand and real native sandstone rocks, which Houser cut ridges in to make appear old and weathered.
