Sir Augustus Wall Callcott, een vooraanstaande Engelse landschapsschilder, werd op 20 februari 1779 geboren in Kensington Gravel Pits, een dorp aan de westelijke rand van Londen. Zijn vroege jaren werden gekenmerkt door een diepe passie voor muziek, wat hem er zelfs toe bracht om gedurende enkele jaren deel uit te maken van het koor van Westminster Abbey.
