Julien Levy, een vooraanstaande kunsthandelaar en eigenaar van de Julien Levy Gallery in New York City, werd geboren op 22 januari 1906. Hij studeerde museumadministratie aan Harvard onder de begeleiding van Paul J. Sachs, maar besloot kort voor zijn afstuderen de studie te verlaten.hoogtepunten uit zijn carrière
De nauwe banden die Levy onderhield met Marcel Duchamp brachten hem in contact met grootheden als Man Ray en Berenice Abbott, wat uiteindelijk leidde tot de verwerving van een deel van het persoonlijke archief van Eugène Atget. In 1oot 1927 ontmoette hij de kunstenares en schrijfster Mina Loy en trouwde zij met haar dochter, Joella Haweis. In 1949 verhuisde Levy naar Connecticut, trouwde in 1958 met Jean Farley McLaughlin en gaf les aan het Sarah Lawrence College en de State University of New York at Purchase.
