Ceal Floyer (b.1968) is a Pakistani-born British visual artist whose work explores the intersection of everyday objects, language, and perception—often imbued with a wry humor that challenges conventional notions of artmaking. Born in Karachi, Pakistan, Floyer’s artistic journey began at Dartington College of Arts where she pursued theatre studies (1989–90), followed by a foundation course at Sir John Cass School of Art and Design (1990–1). Her formal education culminated in a BA degree in Fine Art from Goldsmiths' College, London (1991–4), establishing her as a significant voice within the contemporary art landscape. Floyer’s artistic practice is characterized by its deliberate simplicity—a conscious rejection of grand gestures and elaborate techniques. She utilizes readily available materials – receipts, curtains, light switches – transforming them into sculptural installations that invite contemplation about their inherent qualities and cultural significance.
