charles cottet, a renowned french painter, was born on july 12, 1863, in le puy-en-velay, and passed away on september 20, 1925, in paris. he studied at the école des beaux-arts under puvis de chavannes and roll, and also attended the académie julian, where he was part of the les nabis school of painting.artistic style and influences
cottet's artistic style is characterized by dark, evocative paintings of rural brittany and seascapes. he led a school of painters known as the bande noire or "nubians" group, which was influenced by the realism and dark colors of courbet. his work is also associated with the picturesque seaside symbolism of the pont-aven school.notable works and exhibitions
