Pierre Balmain (1914 – 1982)

The modern look of the collar and the use of elastic around the wrists highlight a modern take on this black angora wool trench coat. Like the Spaniard Julio Laffitte, Balmain trained with Molineux and Lelong and founded his own branch in 1945. From the beginning he coined what was the New Look, long , full skirts and narrow waists a silhouette that is represented in this coat. From then on Balmain would become one of the most prestigious brands of the golden age of French haute couture.
