Untitled ( An oil painting, painted by hand for you alone

A Symphony of Geometry and Color

In the vast and vibrant landscape of Middle Eastern modernism, few voices resonate with as much structural clarity and rhythmic energy as that of Saliba Doueihy. His Untitled work serves as a profound testament to his ability to distill the essence of both landscape and spirit into the realm of pure, geometric abstraction. At first glance, the viewer is enveloped by a deep, commanding blue that dominates the canvas, acting not merely as a background but as an infinite, atmospheric space. This expansive azure field provides a serene yet powerful foundation for the sudden, rhythmic interruptions of color that dance across the composition, creating a visual dialogue that feels both ancient and avant-garde.

The painting is a masterclass in equilibrium, where the perceived weight of the large red square at the top creates a striking tension against the delicate, luminous yellow squares nestled on the right. This carefully choreographed visual journey invites the eye to wander through a space that feels both contained and boundless. Through the application of oil on board, Doueihy achieves a texture that is simultaneously deliberate and fluid. The way the red pigment spans the upper reaches of the work suggests a horizon or perhaps a celestial event, while the smaller yellow accents act as points of concentrated light, reminiscent of sunbeams piercing through a twilight sky.

The Spirit of Lebanon in Abstract Form

While the work avoids literal representation, it is deeply rooted in the cultural and natural splendor of Doueihy’s homeland. His use of bold, primary-adjacent colors seeks to capture the vibrant, sun-drenched spirit of Lebanon and the broader Middle Eastern landscape. By utilizing the language of geometry—squares, lines, and planes—he evokes the architectural rhythms and natural textures of his native Zgharta and beyond. This technique allows the artist to transcend the physical world, moving into a space where color itself becomes the subject, reflecting the rich cultural heritage and the resilient spirit of the region.

For the discerning collector or interior designer, this artwork offers much more than mere decoration; it provides a focal point of profound intellectual and emotional depth. The piece possesses a unique ability to transform a space, bringing a sense of modern sophistication and a meditative calm. Whether placed in a contemporary gallery setting or as a centerpiece in a luxurious residential interior, the painting’s dynamic contrast between its deep blue void and its vibrant geometric accents creates an atmosphere of prestige and contemplation. It is an invitation to experience the pulse of human emotion through the lens of structural perfection.
