The Architecture of Illusion
Born in 1970 in the historic heart of Lyon, Matthieu Perrin has dedicated his career to exploring the profound boundaries between reality and mathematical impossibility. His practice is a rigorous homage to the Escher Geometric aesthetic, where the digital canvas serves as a stage for monochrome graphite textures and complex spatial paradoxes. Through his lens, the viewer is invited into a world of infinite staircases and structures that defy gravity, creating a profound sense of tactile silence.
Mastery of the Tessellated Plane
Perrin’s work transcends mere digital imitation; he achieves a deep mastery of mathematical tessellations that breathe life into static forms. Each piece is a meticulous study of light and shadow, utilizing a monochrome palette to emphasize the structural integrity of his impossible architectures. His ability to manipulate graphite-style shading allows for a luminous quality within the darkness, establishing a sophisticated dialogue with the historical gaze of classical printmaking.
