John Constable Reeve, né en 1929 à Valley Farm, Sproughton, Ipswich, était le fils de Clarence Victor Reeve et de Mabel Rose Wright. Issu d'une union célébrée à Ipswich en 1921, il grandit aux côtés de sa sœur, Diana Rose Reeve. Après avoir entamé sa scolarité en décembre 1943, il rejoignit la ferme familiale pour y travailler, tout en cultivant avec une ferveur constante sa passion d'enfance pour la peinture, qu'il fit de l'œuvre de toute une vie. Dès 1947, Reeve commença à s'imposer au sein de la communauté artistique, recevant des distinctions prestigieuses auprès de la Royal Drawing Society et de la Children’s Academy, témoignant ainsi d'un talent remarquable dès son plus jeune âge.- Premières expositions et reconnaissance : Reeve fit ses premiers pas artistiques en 1941 avec deux œuvres — « Lower Meadow Bridge » et « Sunshine » — présentées au Ipswich Art Club.
