b. 1961, Thailand; based in BangkokManit’s Pink Man series originally began as a performance in 1997, played by fellow artist, performer Sompong Thavee. In the photographs, Pink Man, with his flashy empty pink shopping cart, is the embodiment of the never satisfied, self-centred consumer searching for fulfilment in a capitalist world. Like most tourists today, he yearns for a consumer’s paradise, as he travels through history and geography, only interested in collecting exotic destinations, shopping, and showing off.The photograph was taken at Garuda Wisnu Kencana Cultural Park.
