Portrait Commissions and Later Life

Upon his return to the United States, West established himself as a sought-after painter for the American elite. During his time in the South, he painted several family portraits in Natchez, Mississippi, contributing to the visual record of the region's prominent households. He remained dedicated to this vocation until his final years. While his professional life was centered in Baltimore, his life reached its conclusion in Nashville, Tennessee.
