A Study in Optical Rhythm

Step closer to observe how the eye begins to move across the surface of Domb-B. At first glance, your attention is drawn to that central blue and yellow circle, a focal point that seems to anchor the entire composition. Around this primary shape, a constellation of smaller circles orbits in a structured pattern, creating a sense of quiet, rhythmic motion. The colors are clear and direct, pulling the viewer into a specific visual frequency.

The technique here relies on the precise arrangement of these geometric forms. There is no attempt at representational depth; instead, the work uses the relationship between color and shape to suggest a pulse. It is a deliberate exercise in how we perceive boundaries and light. The way the smaller circles interact with the larger one creates a subtle vibration, making the flat plane feel as though it possesses its own internal energy.

The Logic of Perception

This piece belongs to a period where the exploration of Op art principles allowed for a new kind of visual engagement. The artist utilized mathematical precision and geometric abstraction to move away from traditional narrative. By focusing on the fundamental mechanics of sight, the work invites you to participate in its creation through the simple act of looking.

There is an intellectual clarity in this arrangement. The use of a serigraph medium allows for sharp edges and consistent color application, which is essential for the intended optical effect. It does not ask for an emotional response rooted in memory or sentiment, but rather a physiological one. You find yourself caught in the tension between the static nature of the print and the perceived movement within its patterns.
