Born in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Rutka’s artistic journey began with formal training at Cleveland School of Art from 1926 to 1929, fostering a foundational understanding of printmaking techniques—a skill she would skillfully employ throughout her career.- Early Influences & Travels: Rutka's formative years were marked by an intellectual curiosity fueled by travel through Europe in 1931. - Illustrator & Writer: Returning to the United States, Rutka pursued a dual vocation as illustrator and writer for publication, notably contributing to Bystander magazine.
