Beaded moccasins
1850
10.0 x 11.0 cm
Leeds Museums - Galleries
This pair of beaded moccasins is made of fairly soft tanned hide, with a cuff and vamp of black velvet which is covered with multi-coloured floral bead embroidery. The inside of each shoe is lined with cotton, and the top of the cuffs are bound with silk ribbon. The flowers and large leaf shapes of the glass beadwork have paper linings, showing that these elements were prepared on paper patterns before being applied to the rest of the design.
