Friedrich Eibner was a German painter whose artistic soul was deeply entwined with the grandeur of the built environment. Eib．ner’s path took him along the Rhine, through the landscapes of France, and into Northern Italy. One of the most significant chapters of his life occurred during a journey to Spain in 1860–61, traveling in the entourage of Russian Prince Meshchersky. This expedition proved immensely fruitful for his legacy; Eibner produced a vast collection of drawings and watercolours, sixty-five of which were acquired by the Prince to be arranged into a magnificent facsimile album. This body of work remains a testament to his ability to translate foreign vistas into intimate, detailed records.
