A Dialogue Between Eras
Born in 1967, Laurent Sorel has cultivated a visual language that serves as a bridge between historical mastery and the pulse of modern life. Working from his studio in Lyon, France, Sorel achieves a profound chromatic harmony by adapting the flat composition and refined line traditions of classical aesthetics into contemporary forms. His practice is deeply rooted in the soul of Ukiyo-e inspired art, where he utilizes deliberate stylization and precise linework to capture the ephemeral beauty of the present moment through a lens of timeless tradition.
Mastery of Line and Form
The essence of Sorel's portfolio lies in his ability to manipulate space and silhouette, creating works that possess both luminous depth and a striking graphic clarity. By embracing the principles of Japanese woodblock aesthetics, he strips away unnecessary complexity to reveal the structural elegance of his subjects. This meticulous approach to form ensures that each piece functions as a sophisticated meditation on shape, color, and the delicate balance between negative space and intricate detail.
