Regent's Park College

A Sanctuary of Intellect and Faith

Nestled discreetly off the historic St Giles’, Regent’s Park College emerges not merely as an academic institution, but as a profound testament to enduring conviction and the pursuit of truth. To wander through its tranquil grounds is to step into a narrative that spans centuries, beginning far from the dreaming spires of Oxford in the vibrant streets of London. Founded upon the principles of the London Baptist Education Society, the college’s journey—from its 1810 origins in Stepney to its 1927 relocation to this serene Oxford enclave—is a story of movement, adaptation, and an unwavering commitment to nonconformist excellence. It is a place where the weight of history meets the lightness of progressive ideals, offering a unique space within the venerable University of Oxford for those who seek depth beyond the conventional. This spirit of openness is perhaps most beautifully realized in its long-standing commitment to inclusivity, having been a pioneer in admitting women to its halls as early as the 1920s, thereby enriching the university's intellectual landscape with diverse perspectives.

Treasures of Dissent: The Angus Library & Archive

For the lover of rare manuscripts and the collector of historical narratives, the heart of the college beats most vibrantly within the Angus Library and Archive . This is no mere repository; it is a treasure trove of dissident history, where every parchment and portrait whispers tales of religious reform and global mission. Within these hallowed walls, one finds meticulously transcribed manuscripts that illuminate centuries of theological debate, alongside rare books that document pivotal moments in the nonconformist movement. The collection is further enriched by an intimate array of letters and diaries penned by missionaries who traversed distant continents, bringing the echoes of a global struggle for conviction to this quiet corner of England. Even the portraits held within the archive serve as windows into the past, capturing the very personalities that shaped the trajectory of Baptist tradition, making it a destination of immense scholarly and aesthetic significance for those drawn to the human element of history.
