Konstantin Andreyevich Somov, 30 Kasım 1869’da St. Petersburg’da doğan ve Rus sanatının altın çağına damgasını vurmuş bir ressamdır. Sanatla iç içe geçmiş bir ailede büyümüş olması, onun estetik anlayışının şekillenmesinde derin bir etki bırakmıştır. Babası Andrey Ivanovich Somov, ünlü Hermitage Müzesi’nde saygın bir sanat tarihçisi ve küratördü. Bu ortam, genç Konstantin’in erken yaşlardan itibaren 18. yüzyıl sanatına ve müziğine karşı yoğun bir ilgi duymasına neden olmuştur.
Somov, resim eğitimine 1888-1897 yılları arasında İmparatorluk Güzel Sanatlar Akademisi’nde başlamış ve ünlü gerçekçi ressam Ilya Repin’in öğrencisi olmuştur.
