Photographer Jerry Uelsmann is well-known for creating composite photographs using elaborate combinations of multiple negatives. In this photograph, Uelsmann represents an unreal scene in which silhouetted figures stand on a shore and gaze out at a symmetrical tree that rises out of the white water.
