Born into an established New England family in Hingham, Massachusetts, Walter Gay emerged as a figure of profound significance within the late 19th-century art world. Introduced early to the artistic community by his uncle, the Boston painter Winckworth Allan Gay, Walter’s path was destined for the grand stages of Europe.
