Albert Bertel Thorvaldsen (1770–1844) je bil danski in islandski kipar med svetovnim imenem, katerega dela utripajo s ideali neoklasične umetnosti. Njegova življenjska zgodba je pripoved o izjemnem talentu, neustavljivi študiji in širokem priznanju, ki je preseglo njegove domoljubne meje.

Leta 1838 se je Thorvaldsen vrnil v Dansko kot narodni heroj. Danska vlada je v Kopenhagenu zgradila Thorvaldsenov muzej, da bi v njega smestila njegova dela, kar je nepozorno spomenik njegovi ogromni popularnosti in umetniškemu pomenu. Umrl je leta 1844 in je pokopan v dvorišču muzeja.
