Dieric Bouts bol významným predstaviteľom včasnonederlandskej maľby, ktorý pôsobil v Louvaine od roku 1457 až do svojej smrti v roku 1475. Narodený v holandskom Haarleme, tento umelec vynikol nielen ako maliar, ale aj ako nadaný kreslenár. Jeho umelecká dráha bola plná uznania, čo vyjadruje aj fakt, že v roku 1468 získal prestížnu pozíciu mestského maliara Louvainu.
