Portrait of singer Wilhelm Troszel as Don Juan

1846 · Oil On Canvas · Muzeul Național din Varșovia, Varșovia

The air in the room feels heavy with the scent of old velvet and the cooling warmth of a dying sun. A man leans against a cold stone pillar, his posture a delicate balance of aristocratic poise and a quiet, poetic melancholy. He is not merely a man, but a character caught in a moment of theatrical stillness, embodying the legendary Don Juan. The light, streaming in from the left,…

Portrait of Teresa Kicka

1841 · Oil On Canvas · Muzeul Național din Varșovia, Varșovia

The air in the room feels heavy and still, as if time itself has paused to respect the dignity of the woman before us. Teresa Kicka sits in a quiet, formal poise, her gaze meeting the observer with a steady, unblinking clarity.
