The architectonic structure of Marden’s unfinished painting Untitled (Cold) reflects a range of formative encounters with the art and writing of China and South Asia. Here, the artist corrals hues within black lines that resemble the lead cames in stained glass. Marden described the triangular and diamond shapes as glyphs, investing them with a linguistic property.
