Early Life and Artistic Training Peter Matejka enters the historical record on June 26, 1913, in Nové Mesto nad Váhom, Slovakia. His path toward formal training begins with a preparatory course at the Ukrainian Academy. This initial step leads him to Prague, where he spends the years between 1934 and 1935 studying at the Ukrainian Academy. The focus shifts as he moves into higher academic training, entering the Academy of Fine Arts in
Prague. The years 1935 to 1939 define his formative period in Prague. Under the guidance of Professor Willi Nowak, Matejka refines his technical approach. The academic environment provides the foundation for his development before the disruptions of the era force a return to Slovakia.
