Anne Nasmyth: życie i twórczość
A Legacy of the Nasmyth Family
Born in Edinburgh, United Kingdom, Anne Nasmyth was a member of a highly talented artistic family. As the daughter of Alexander and Barbara Nasmyth, she was one of eleven children taught to draw and paint by her father, an engineer and successful artist. While her sisters were also notable painters, Anne was considered the "best painter in this talented family."
Her artistic repertoire focused on the Scottish countryside, often capturing the essence of harsh weather, as well as delicate subjects like flowers and gardens. Although she was not as prolific in exhibiting her work as her sisters, her talent earned her recognition through exhibitions at several prestigious institutions, including:
Life and Artistic Journey
Anne's life was deeply intertwined with the artistic and social circles of her time. After her father established a painting school in Edinburgh, the family eventually expanded their teaching efforts to London. Following her marriage to William Bennett in 1838, Anne lived in Salford and later moved to Putney, London. Her home in Charlwood Road became a central social hub for her extended family, where her mother and unmarried sisters eventually gathered.
Her artistic contributions are preserved in various collections, with some of her paintings held by the National Trust. Notable locations for her works include Hartwell House and Anglesey Abbey. One of her recognized works is View of Windsor Castle seen through Trees.
