Sponsored by H.L. Storey, Hoggatt embarked on a transformative journey to Paris in 1899-1901 where he immersed himself in the vibrant atmosphere of the Académie Julian. Returning to England, Hoggatt worked briefly at the Tate Gallery before relocating to the Isle of Man in 1907 alongside his wife, Dazine Archer.
