      Pierre Balmain (1914-1982) var en fransk couturier kjent for etterkrigstidens eleganse og «New Look». Kjent for strukturerte silhuetter, luksuriøse stoffer og design foretrukket av kongelige og stjerner som Marlene Dietrich.

Like the Spaniard Julio Laffitte, Balmain trained with Molineux and Lelong and founded his own branch in 1945. From the beginning he coined what was the New Look, long , full skirts and narrow waists a silhouette that is represented in this coat. From then on Balmain would become one of the most prestigious brands of the golden age of French haute couture.
