Ville Tops: menininkas
Early Life and Artistic Training
Ville Tops was born on September 21, 1929, in Tallinn, Estonia. His early years were marked by movement, as he eventually sought asylum in Sweden during the Second World War. Before finding his way into the studio, he spent time in Norrköping, where he finished his studies at the Norrköping School of Commerce in 1947.
His formal training in the visual arts developed later in Stockholm. Between 1963 and 1967, he studied at the graphic arts studio of Kursverksamheten at Stockholm University. During these same years, from 1964 to 1967, he also attended evening courses at the Stockholm College of Applied Arts. These years of study helped shape his focus on graphic art and painting.
Key Works and Collections
The physical presence of his work is found in many places across Estonia. Between 1965 and 2008, Estonian public collections acquired 117 works by the artist. These pieces, which include paintings, prints, and collages, are held in various institutions, such as the Tartu Art Museum and the Kumu Art Museum. His work has also been featured in the Estonian Art Museum.
In 1990, he produced Imagined Flight, an acrylic work on canvas. This specific piece is part of the collection at the Art Museum of Estonia. His output often moved between different mediums, including graphic series, spatial objects, and mixed media.
