Early Life and Academic Training Wassily Wassilyevich Kandinsky was born in Moscow to Lidia Ticheeva and Vassily Silvestrovich Kandinsky. His early years were shaped by the sounds of music, as he spent time studying the piano and the cello. These early lessons in rhythm and sound would stay with him long after he left his childhood home. His path did not lead immediately to a canvas. Instead, he pursued a formal education at the Univer
sity of Moscow, where he focused on law, economics, and ethnography. He eventually took a position as a lecturer after graduating.
