Francesco Liani
Early Life and Move to Naples Francesco Liani was an Italian painter whose early years remain somewhat obscured by the passage of time. Born in Borgo San Donnino, a town now known as Fidenza, his origins lie in the Emilia region. While the specific details of his formative years are not extensively documented, his eventual arrival in the south would define the trajectory of his career. The year 1740 marked a significant turning point
for the artist. He moved to Naples as part of the court of Charles of Bourbon, the future Charles III of Spain. Some accounts suggest this transition may have occurred in 1741, potentially traveling alongside the painter Clemente Ruta. This relocation placed Liani at the heart of a bustling Neapolitan court, providing him with the proximity to power and patronage necessary to establish his reputation.Patrons and Royal Commissions Lian…
