Early Life, Family and Artistic Training Born on 12 July 1824 in the port town of Honfleur, Normandy, France, Eugène Louis Boudin was a child of the sea. His father worked as a harbor pilot, a profession that kept the family's life tied to the tides and the movement of vessels.
