A Life of Form and Geometry Born in Amsterdam in 1924, Piet van Mook entered a world shaped by the legacy of his father, the painter Harry van Mook. His early years were marked by a quiet resistance; during the occupation, he refused to sign the loyalty oath required by German authorities, a choice that led him into hiding and away from his initial ambitions in biology. This period of concealment eventually gave way to a formal educati
on at the Gerrit Rietveld Academie between 1946 and 1952. It was here that the foundations for a career spanning sculpture, painting, and graphic arts were laid. After completing his studies, he settled in Gouda, where he balanced a life of teaching with a restless creative practice.
